Taizo Yamamoto is a Canadian architect. As an illustrator, he makes hyper-detailed pencil drawings of unusual subjects. His series of shopping carts, for example, is based on the out of context use of these objects as a means to collect and transport goods by the city homeless. Other series include Instant Ramen and Shawarmas, usually displayed in a grid of variations of the same item on the artist’s website. This method of representation, a veritable taxonomy of the ordinary, provides the most mundane topics an unexpected dignity and an almost “sculptural” force.
