Throughout her career, Hungarian artist Dora Maurer explored the relationship between space and movement. The media she used in her practice span from photography to video, painting and drawing with a focus on sequences, geometrical compositions and structures and the presence of the human figure as a means to relate places and processes.
In Tracing Space I and II, serial photographs are taken inside her studio, where the artist moved around shooting sequences of photos in correspondance with previously planned maps. The works explore the relationship between the planned action in a known space and the variations due to the actual recording of the camera, between structure and improvisation.
