English photographer Oliver Michaels creates images through the composition of different architectural elements as found in specific places. The original pieces are mostly photographed in locations around Longpoint, Brooklyn where the artist is currently based, but also around Rockaway, Queens, and Orlando or Miami, Florida. The digital collages seek consistency in the assemblage of fragments, identifying a common style or pure formal resonances among elements. The results are imaginary buildings, isolated against a mundane background and emerging as ambiguous sculptures which summarize the character of a whole area. The images composition makes direct reference to the seminal work of Bernd and Hilla Becher while playing with the idea of reinventing the found buildings.
