Lara Almarcegui is a Spanish artist who currently lives and works in Rotterdam. Her work deals with the transformation of cities, urban renewal, demolitions, decay and restorations with a focus on leftovers: waste, construction materials, vacant lots. She documents areas of transition and spaces which are going to acquire a new meaning in the city, through a large collection of data ranging from the historical, the sociological and the geographical.
Effects of urban planning and building are shown through the material presence of the basic substance which constitutes the built environment: bricks, mortar, stones. Materials that are weighted and counted and then finally exhibited in the space of a gallery or a museum becoming an interior landscape.
