Alex Lowery is a British painter who depicts landscapes composed of few elements: houses, skies, surfaces which become fields, streets, beaches or parking lots. Each subject is described by surfaces of colors, low detailing, no windows, trees as simple shadows. Lamp posts or signs are sometimes added as vertical counterpoints to the horizontal compositions. In the flat, almost abstract scenes, weather and atmospherical conditions play a major role, fog or the sky at dawn, long shadows or light skies confer a sense of calmness and stillness.
