The World Games 2009 will be held in July in Kaohsiung. Everything in response to the holding of such a grand event, such as the designs of the stadiums and the arrangements of streets and KMRT stations in Kaohsiung, inspires one to think about how early architects overcame all the difficulties and laid a solid foundation for the modernization of Taiwan’s architecture. This exhibition is curated to illustrate how Taiwan’s architecture has developed since the WWII and also to pay tribute to all the outstanding local architects in this period of time. More importantly, through this exhibition, valuable historical records and documents are collected to fill the gaps in the history of Taiwan’s modern architecture disrupted by the impact of Western modernism. This exhibition will help to wake up memories of Taiwan’s past and inspire social actions that can restore our fragmented history.
