Hiroshi Hara‘s “Multilayered Theory of the City” is put into practice through this model for an utopian metropolis.
A three-dimensional lattice is used to represent the “burst” of the city, that is, its capacity for self-transformation, self-destruction and “repair” that is realized through the accumulation of memories of its transformation.
His model for a 500 cubic meters unit is a representation of the future possibilities of city living, and consists of a metal frame and an acrylic skin emitting light to signify the bursting and reparing of the city.
Eleven panels depict the urban evolution from the year 2001 through 2101.
