Artem Matyushkin is a Russian art director and graphic designer based in Moscow and New York. He started his career as a journalist and later found himself doing art direction and design in a broad sense.
His practice mainly focuses on visual identity, editorial and digital design for brands and organizations in the cultural field. His approach focuses on an overall concept that develops its own logic and structures through the project.
Artem Matyushkin’s works find their roots in concrete poetry and text-based conceptual art. His visual research CXEMA (Russian for “Scheme”) is “an ongoing exploration on technical aesthetics and the art of making”. The author collects scientific and technical visual elements, from graphs to diagrams, maps and sequences from manuals and books. He then decontextualizes, abstracts and re-employs them for their pure visual value, letting them become the main feature of each work. The eyes roam through the lines encountering dynamic moments and close sections, intricate connections and linear progressions, operating a visual journey through the graphic space.
