Onkalo is a Finnish word for “hiding place”. It is situated at Olkiluoto in Finland – approx. 300 km northwest of Helsinki and it’s the first man-made-construction designed to last for the eternity.
A huge system of underground tunnels destined to house the world biggest nuclear waste repository.
Once the waste has been deposited and the repository is full, the facility is to be sealed off and never opened again. Exactly like the Egyptian pyramids, someone would add.
