1970’s Czech surrealist/horror tale of a “girl getting her period”, Valerie and her week of wonders is a strange film where love, fear, sex and religion merge in a sort of Alice in Wonderwall XVII century landscape.
No linear plot but beautiful sequences of moving images, which seem to keep inspiring a lot of followers, both in movies and other arts. The Broadcast album Haha Sound takes much inspiration from film and its music: their song “Valerie” is the most obvious example, while recently deceased Broadcast singer Trish Keenan wrote some notes on the re-released soundtrack of the movie.
