Traces of Nature in Japanese Suburbs: Works by Yukiko Suto

 

Yukiko Suto is a Japanese artist who works mostly on black and white images on canvas combining different painting and drawing techniques. An almost documentary attitude lies behind her work: her photos are taken across many Japanes residential neighborhoods and are later transferred into series of detailed images in which some elements are usually reinvented. Many of her canvases depict the delicate cohabitation between the built  and the natural environment in the form of potted plants arranged outside a house or small agricoltural fields developed in between urban settings.
