Evil House: Monochrome Drawings by Morten Schelde

July 24, 2015 by Fosco Lucarelli Leave a Comment

Morten Schelde is a renowned Danish artist born in 1972 in Copenhagen.

His linear drawings, prints and etchings employ a colourful yet limited palette (often in monochrome red or black) to render dreamy scenes of fantastical worlds, from interiors and domestic spaces (beds, rooms, doorways), to portraits, panoramic landscapes and anthropomorphized animal figures such as bears, horses and wolves, these last being recurring characters.

Suspended between the figural and the abstract, Schelde’s motifs often revolve around his own life and notably his childhood, in a conflation between mythological memories, familiar scenes, and surreal inventions – to end up forming fairytale compositions.
