František Lesák is a Czech artist who moved to Vienna in 1964. In the series Berglandschaft (Mountain Landscape, 1972-1973), today part of the beautiful collection of the FRAC Centre in Orleans(*), he imagines the transformation of space and landscape through the medium of drawing. The artist conceived an imaginary three-dimensional intervention which provokes a start contrast between a sculptural human action, underlined with bold colors, and natural context. This work resonates with his 1972 series “Geordnete Landschaft” (Organized Landscape), where elements of a mountainous landscape are submitted to the human will to organize, control and design any element on Earth.
