Wolfgang Laib is a German artist who explores a set of minimal forms through installations that are mostly realized using natural elements like pollen, rice, and marble. His works are largely influenced by Eastern cultures, especially Zen Buddhism, and they involve complex rituals and a strong interest in the process of production of artworks, a meaningful part of the work itself.
The photographic works are pictures taken by the artist during his journeys; they show a specific interest in built forms that are mostly conductible to the ones he keeps exploring through his work. Sanctuaries, cemeteries, walls, places where rituals are translated into material architectures. The buildings are portrayed in black and white with strong contrasts which accentuate the evidence of a specific form.
