Various Forms of Architecture (1636), A Selection of Etchings

June 8, 2016 by Fosco Lucarelli Leave a Comment

Joanne Vredemanni Vriesio, also known as Hans Vredeman de Vries (1527–c.1607) was a Dutch Renaissance architect, painter and engineer. He extensively wrote on garden design (1538) ornaments (1565) and perspective (1604) of which he became an international authority. After his studies on Vitruvius and Serlio, de Vries became Antwerp city architect and fortification engineer.

The following etchings from Variae Architecturae Formae, (1636) by Jan and Lucas Van Doetecum, two brothers from Hollstein, are based upon the architectural works of de Vries.
