‘Everything I Have’ and Other Works by Simon Evans

March 27, 2016 by Mariabruna Fabrizi 2 Comments

The paper works of the duo of artists called ‘Simon Evans’ combine a certain passion for materiality with a conceptual attitude and a humorous touch. Most of their works are collages of different kind of found papers, scotch, and scraps which look very refined from a distance and yet reveal a certain roughness when seen from close. Textual insertions with personal references are alternated with hints of concrete poetry in which mundane subjects like stains or clothes are connected with existential observations. The artists’ complex and absurdist vocabulary are distributed through multiple supports mixing autobiographical events with paradoxical considerations on life. Fragments of poetry are carefully arranged on paper in relationships with different kinds of maps, lists, diagrams and schemes inventing unexpected correspondences between spaces and words.
