French painter and watercolourist François Marius Granet, (1775-1849), a scholar of Jacques-Louis David, lived and worked for several years of his life in the former convent of the Capucins in Paris. Apparently, that’s where it started his interest in painting interior vaulted spaces and investigate light and shadowplays. His carefully composed scenes are mostly conveyed through one-point perspectives with a huge emphasis on the architectural structures, the ceiling’s rhythm and the varying lighting inside the space.
